Sustainable AI Use

The Challenge 

How might we enable people in the organization to balance the benefits of generative AI with its environmental costs, so they can make responsible, transparent, and sustainable decisions? 

This project focuses on raising awareness of the environmental impact of artificial intelligence (AI) within the Dutch Ministry of Finance. The initiative aims to make the hidden energy consumption of everyday AI use visible, personal, and actionable for ministry employees. 

By developing interactive tools such as dashboards, reflective installations and light gamification elements, the project encourages employees to use AI more consciously rather than excessively. The goal is not to limit innovation, but to integrate digital sustainability into daily work culture.
