We are a not-for-profit part of the Faculty of Digital Media & Creative Industry at Hogeschool van Amsterdam (HvA). We were founded as a joint initiative of the University and the Municipality of Amsterdam to drive innovation and bring diverse digital talent to the Netherlands.

As an “innovation motor” of HvA, our activities are deeply rooted in the university’s strategic course focusing on 3 themes: Sustainability, diversity & inclusion and digitalisation.

Yes. Upon successful completion, you will receive a certificate.

The programme runs for 22 weeks.

The programme requires your physical presence on location in Amsterdam 4 days a week.

The tuition fee to participate in the Transformation Leadership Programme in 2024/2025 is €4,400 with the time commitment.

Applications should be done in English only.

Unless stated otherwise, the Digital Society School only offers 20-week positions. Applications for regular, paid positions will NOT be considered.

You are willing and able to make a full-time commitment for 20 weeks (32 hrs/week – Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu).

Semesters start in the first week of February (spring semester) and the first week of September (fall semester).

Initially this is a Traineeship. You can ask your school for permission to have the traineeship classified as an internship.

No. Design Challenge and a project are both part of the traineeship.

Applications should be done in English only.

Applications are greatly welcome from applicants of all nationalities.

Unfortunately, we do not provide any travel reimbursement during the Traineeship programme.

You also need to cover the cost of your flight to Amsterdam yourself.

We do not provide any allowance during the traineeship.

Non-EU applicants who require visa sponsorship have to apply at least 2 months before the start of the program. We advise you to apply at least 6 months in advance. If you apply later we cannot guarantee your application can be processed in time.

EU and NL applicants can apply up to 2 weeks before semester if positions are still available.

For visa sponsorship, non-EU applicants are required to have a Masters’ degree. Or you are a participant in a student exchange programme where your University has partnered with the Department of Digital Media and Creative Industry of Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. Finally, when you are studying in Europe you might be eligible for participation in the Erasmus programme. In the last two cases, you can inquire with the international office of your University if this is the case and what possibilities there are.

For visa sponsorship, non-EU applicants are required by the Dutch government to prove their ability to support themselves financially throughout the semester. They have this set around €1000 per month that you are in the country. Family members can also act as guarantors. You have to prove that you have these funds freely available in case of emergency.

Options for arranging housing are limited, for more information please contact learning-dss@hva.nl. We advise you to consider looking for housing outside the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area as well.
